URBAN SAFARI RESCUE

Thursdays to Mondays in July and August (excluding holidays).

Come explore the world of animals at Urban Safari Rescue Society. Urban Safari is a registered charity with the mission to rescue and provide sanctuary for unwanted exotic animals and education to the public about animals and the natural world. You can explore animals from around the world, animals that come from South America, Africa, Asia, Central America, Australia. Learn about insects, spiders, reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals. There are approximately 380 animals to see and learn about in this unique facility. Urban Safari also has a very impressive collection of mounted butterflies and other insects. Be curious - there is so much to learn.

Ages 6 and up

Join us for an introduction to Shaolin Kung Fu taught by Master Shi Yandi, a 34th generation kung fu monk. You will also have the chance to learn Chinese calligraphy which you can take home with you.  This event is hosted by the Shaolin Temple of Canada.  Adults/parents will help the children with the calligraphy.

 

Dress code:

Long pants (no shorts or skirts)

T-shirt (no tank top)

Please also bring a water bottle.

Our Port of Vancouver Discovery Centre at Canada Place is offering a 90-minute interactive education program.

 

Kids will learn how their lives are connected to the port and build awareness of the importance of trade in our lives, as well as the role that we play in facilitating trade.  There will be activities such as a cargo relay, enviro quiz, import story, scavenger hunt and trivia challenge!

Learn the science of crime and the history of policing at the Vancouver Police Museum & Archives, home of Vancouver’s former CSI lab! Walk through the museum's authentic historic spaces and learn about some of Vancouver's most exciting criminal cases and unsolved murder mysteries, or find out about the fascinating history of forensic science and policing in Vancouver. Our exhibits are educational, captivating, and include authentic photos, archival material and artefacts straight from the source.

Beginners' fun with computers and coding

Ages 6-8

11am-12pm

This virtual instructor-led workshop guides participants through unplugged activities and coding puzzles to introduce them to coding. It introduces foundational concepts of coding using drag and drop blocks instead of a script-based programing language such as JavaScript or Python. Leaders engage participants in a variety of activities grounded in the basics of coding, encouraging persistence in the face of challenges.

StanLEY PARK MINIATURE TRAIN

Show your Kidsworld pass at the ticket booth for both child and adult to ride for free!  They will issue you a ticket which you can then show at the train station to get on board!


Enjoy a 15 minute train ride past towering cedar and fir trees, over streams and ponds and through tunnels, on the world-famous Stanley Park Train. The 20 gauge, 2 kilometer track winds through the forest over ground cleared by Typhoon Freda, the most devastating storm in Vancouver history which blew through in 1962.  

Passengers can get a close-up look at a vintage engine and a quick photo before boarding for the 15 minute ride. The jewel of the Stanley Park Railway’s collection of old locomotives is a locally-built replica of Canadian Pacific Railway Engine #374, famous for pulling Canada's first transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver in the late 1880s.  

Stanley Park Railway is adjacent to other popular destinations such as Lumberman’s Arch, Malkin Bowl, and the Rose Garden.
