Come enjoy several online activities hosted by Metrotown's Microsoft Store!  Please note there are six different activities throughout the month, and each activity is run twice.  A child can choose two activities they would like to do.  If spaces remain on the Reservation Events page the day before an event, you can sign up for it in addition to your two chosen activities.

 

Road Trip with Bing Maps: Plan your perfect road trip! During this virtual workshop, students will choose 3 national parks or monuments to explore in Bing Maps and then put together an exciting PowerPoint presentation showcasing their virtual road trip.

 

Computer Basics: In this free workshop, students will use and understand the basic parts of a computer. They will also learn basic coding terminology and learn how to apply what they have learned into basic coding games.

We’ve adapted our farm to give you and your family a chance to come and see our animals and enjoy a Drive-Thru experience. Visit all of our animals and take in the great views, smells, and sounds as you drive slowly around the farm and through the barn.

During your visit read along about the animals and the farm here at Eagle Acres.

This tour experience Does Not permit any guests to get out of their vehicles BUT, you can get out of your house! Our washrooms will not be available during your visit – Plan accordingly.

6 PACK INDOOR BEACH BASH

11am-3pm

One time entrance to the per Kidsworld pass throughout the month of August on weekdays starting August 4.

Call in advance to 604-321-6800 to book a time attending.  You will need to say that you are a Kidsworld member, how many people are in your group, and you phone number.  Then when you arrive at the time you booked, show Your Kidsworld Pass for free entrance to drop in and do lots of activities!  Your name will be crossed off the Kidsworld member list.

Come enjoy some time in the sand during the open drop in from 11am-3pm at 6 Pack Beach!  There will be open free play for the kids to make sand castles, play beach volleyball, dodgeball, soccer, badminton.  For kids 8 and older, you can request hoverball when calling in advance to book your time.

Ride With Newton

EngKidz a group of local engineers with a keen interest in encouraging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education in Lower Mainland. We have developed a set of STEM workshops that closely align with BC science curriculum to encourage kids to take up and explore STEM careers.

 

Together in this free Kidsworld virtual STEM workshop, we will build a cool air powered car with everyday materials. The workshop will include interactive simulations and demonstrations along with quiz/polls to keep kids engaged.

Materials Required

Scissors, ruler, marker, glue gun & glue sticks (or duct tape), scotch tape, rubber band, 3 thin straws, 1 bubble tea straw (or thicker diameter straw), 3 dowels/coffee stirrers/skewers that fit within the small straw, 4 identical bottle caps, 1 500ml disposable plastic water bottle, 2 regular size balloons, duct tape or masking tape.

On August 18, 19, 25 and 26 there will be four 30 minute zookeeper talks featuring different animals from the zoo!

Explore the university’s spectacular biological collections, with 20,000 square feet of exhibits, from insects to birds! Among our two million treasured specimens are a 26-metre-long blue whale skeleton suspended in the atrium, dinosaur trackways from BC’s early Cretaceous period, and myriad fossils, mammals, reptiles, and plants from around our region and across the planet.

The George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary has 850 acres of wetlands, marshes and low dykes that is is ideally located for or the millions of birds seeking feeding and resting areas during their annual migrations along the Pacific Coast.  It is a great place for bird watching for all ages.  In August you will see birds flying south from Alaska and the Arctic.  These birds often have specialized beaks for digging in the soft mud, and feed in outer outer shallow ponds at high tide.  With 6kms of walking trails, allow 2 hours on average for your visit.  Please note the picnic area is closed due to Covid-19.

On zoom we will be introduced to the work of the SPCA, do a walk through tour of the shelter, and learn how to make frozen treats for different species of animals.

The BC SPCA, Vancouver Branch, will take you through the facility to see animals, learn about the work the SPCA does, and give helpful hints & tips for responsible pet care.

Get Creative with Paint 3D: In this virtual workshop, students will learn about the Paint 3D app and how they can use it for free on any Windows device. They will also be able to create 3D objects and create their own artwork.

Code your own Video Game: In this virtual workshop, students will use block coding to create a video game in MakeCode Arcade. Students will learn basic game development terms like variable, sprite, and coordinates to create a basic game of their own.

This presentation for Kidsworld families is designed to introduce your family to animals you may not have experienced before and concepts centred around animals like habitats, defence, adaptations, conservation and more. The animals you will see are exotic insects, tarantulas, lizards, snakes, turtle, tortoise, rabbit or Guinea Pig, Ferret, Sugar Glider.

 

Urban Safari is a registered charity with the mission to rescue and provide sanctuary for unwanted exotic animals and education to the public about animals and the natural world. During these times being closed, Urban Safari Rescue is offering these Zoom presentations, and would appreciate any donations you can make to help keep them going while closed.   All money goes directly toward the care, feeding and housing of our 350 rescued exotic animals at the facility. They are a registered charity and can provide tax receipts if you ask for one.  Please visit the donation page at urbansafari.ca/contact/donations/

Hall of Fossils virtual tour: Travel millions of years into the past without leaving your home. Students will get to virtually tour the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History right from their web browser.

Minecraft Hour of Code: Join us for this free 60-minute workshop to take part in the global Hour of Code movement. Using the power of code, students will explore different worlds and be able to control their character and interact with different environments.
